This 8 night tour shows you the best that Boston, Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard have to offer, After 2 nights exploring Boston you are off to the beautiful Island on Martha's
Vineyard for 3 nights followed by 3 nights on lovely Cape Cod.
Days 1 & 2: Boston, Massachusetts
Incorporated as a town in 1630, and as a city in 1822, Boston is one of America’s oldest cities, with a rich economic and social history to match. Since its beginnings as a homesteading community, it
has evolved into a centre for social and political change and is now the economic and cultural hub of New England.
In a city filled with interesting things to see and do, the historic Freedom Trail is the highlight of Boston for many visitors. The 2.5 mile red brick walking trail leads you to 16 nationally
significant historic sites, everyone an authentic American treasure. Preserved and dedicated by the citizens of Boston in 1958, when the wrecking ball threatened several important places, the Freedom
Trail today is a unique collection of museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship, and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution.
You can walk the Trail yourself, or take one of the many guided tours available through the National Park Service. Tours begin every half hour from the park visitor centre at 15 State Street opposite
the Old State House. If you prefer to ride, you can take a trolley tour, which is an unofficial guided tour, but does include many of the most important sites along the Trail including Old Ironsides,
the Paul Revere House and the Old North Church. Plan to stop and eat at Faneuil Hall, once the primary meeting place for America’s revolutionaries. It is now a bustling market of restaurants and
shops.
Cheers, of the famous television show, is located on Beacon Hill. The Sam Adams Brewery is a recent addition, founded in 1984. The Boston Museum of Arts, founded in 1876, has an outstanding,
world-renowned collection that includes some 450,000 items. The New England Aquarium offers special whale watching trips until October. There’s also the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, Newberry
Street, with some of the best antiquing in America, and Cambridge, MA, home of Harvard University, right across the river.
2 nights in Boston at the Taj Hotel.
Day 3, 4 & 5: Martha's Vineyard (75 Miles)
Today you take the car ferry from Woods Hole to spend three nights relaxing and
exploring Martha's Vineyard, The Vineyard features pristine sandy beaches, golf courses, natural beauty, and more than its fair share of
sun-seeking celebrities. Oak Bluffs’ brightly-painted "gingerbread" cottages began as a nineteenth-century Methodist summer campground; the town’s Flying Horses are the oldest
continuously working carousel in America. Vineyard Haven is a picturesque community and the island’s year-round ferry port. Edgartown is an elegant yachting center, its streets still lined with
whaling captains’ stately homes; the Old Whaling Church is now a performing arts center. “Up Island” are the rural communities of West Tisbury and Chilmark and the dramatic, color-streaked Aquinnah
Cliffs. When 17th-century British explorer Bartholomew Gosnold discovered the island, replete with wild grapes, he named if for his youngest daughter, Martha. The island has five lighthouses, all
originally built in the 1800s and subsequently replaced, and, in some cases, moved back from the encroaching sea. The Gay Head and East Chop lighthouses are open for sunset tours on a limited
schedule.
3 nights in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard at the Harbor View Hotel.
Day 6, 7 & 8: Chatham, Cape Cod, Massachusetts (89 Miles)
Time to leave Martha's Vineyard and take your car ferry over to Cape Cod to start your next adventure.
You have three leisurely days to explore Cape Cod with its pretty villages and abundant attractions or enjoy the many attractions of your hotel. Chatham center, just a few minutes from your hotel, is the quintessential New England village by the sea. This is probably Cape Cod at its picturesque best with smart shops, inns, small restaurants, some typically colonial-style white churches, a fishing harbor and a lighthouse with dramatic ocean views the Cape Cod National Seashore has 40 miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds and diverse birdlife.
Drive to Provincetown at the very end of Cape Cod. This colorful and fascinating little town has attracted a wide spectrum of people. Artists live side by side with traditional fisherman and
during the summer Commercial Street is filled with the most cosmopolitan mix of people, exploring the art galleries, tiny seafood restaurants, shops, narrow streets and pretty gardens. A morning
to explore the town and this afternoon maybe take a whale watch cruise, an exciting adventure to view these majestic marine mammals, guided by an expert naturalist. Humpback whales are normally seen
and you’ll never forget your first sighting of a whale blowing after a deep sea dive. This evening enjoy dinner in town or perhaps try a New England Clambake Dune Tour, an exciting trip that combines
the beauty of a sunset dune tour with a traditional New England Clam Bake dinner served picnic style.
3 nights in Chatham at The Chatham Bars Inn.
Day 9: To Boston, Massachusetts (90 Miles)
A last leisurely day on the Cape before your drive to Logan Airport to return your car and take your flight home.
